3. Explain acid fast staining?
Introduction
There are several methods to differentiate bacteria into different groups, staining method is among them. By staining the bacteria, we can classify them into different groups such as Gram positive, gram negative, acid fast positive, acid fast negative etc.
There are different types of staining methods
Types of staining:
Simple staining: in this type of staining a single type of stain/dye is used for staining purpose therefore, this is known as simple staining. Example of stain is methylene blue, gram safranin etc.
Differential staining: here in this type usually two types of stains are used for staining, for example staining of bacterial species can have two type of staining either they’ll either have purple/blue or pink staining. Example Acid Fast Staining.
Negative staining: when we actually stain the background of the specimen without staining the specimen this type of staining is referred as Negative staining.
