Expert Solution
Step 1

The chemical reaction

FeCl3 + 3NH3 + 3H2O -----> Fe(OH)3(s) + 3NH4Cl  ................(1)

MgCl2 + 2NH3 + 2H2O ------> Mg(OH)2(aq) + 2NH4Cl  .................(2)

As, Mg(OH)2 is more soluble in water than Fe(OH)3.

So, after reaction with NH3, the precipitate would contain exclusively Fe(OH)3.

This precipitate when heated gives Fe2O3.

2Fe(OH)3 -----> Fe2O3 + 3H2O  ...............(3)
