QUESTION 2
Schiff base metallomesogens are particularly attractive because of their structural diversity and
photophysical properties. They have been targeted for electro-optical applications such as
modern display devices incorporating organic light emitting diodes (OLEDS), data storage and
thermo/chemosensors. Accordingly, analogous series of the following novel Schiff base
complex, I have been under investigation in the research group of Dr. Richard Taylor and they
display different characteristics based on chain length and metal ion. The series shown
involving copper have absorptive and luminescent properties; the electronic spectrum below
exhibits broad absorption bands with Amax = 264, 398, 515 and a shoulder at 310 nm.
