Draw glycogenolysis and gluconeogenesis pathway
Glucose is the simplest carbohydrate which is the main source of energy in the body of the organisms like humans. There are several processes by which the energy can be obtained from glucose. When the food is taken in, the glucose can be used for fuel. The excess amounts of glucose is stored in form of glycogen in the liver by the action of a hormone known as insulin.
During the state of starvation, the glycogen resources stored in the liver is targetted and broken down into glucose by the process of glycogenolysis. After the glycogen resources are depleted, the process of glyconeogenesis occurs in which generation of glucose from certain non-carbohydrate carbon substrates occur.
