There is a major difference between clinical depression and sadness. Every individual experiences sadness at some moment in their lifetime.
Sadness is a temporary feeling that an individual overcomes as they come in terms with their problems. Depression on the other hand, can lasts for weeks, months or even for years. A person with clinical depression must have either a depressed mood or loses interest or happiness in their daily life constantly for at least 2 weeks. Some of the the most common symptoms of depression include loss of interest in activities which gave them happiness previously, dissatisfaction with life, feelings of hopelessness, irritability, restlessness, lack of energy, transformation in their sleeping and eating habits, difficulty concentrating or making decisions, feeling sad, depressed for most of the day, slowed movements, recurrent thoughts of ending their own life, etc.
