Walter Mischel was an American Psychologist with a distinguished teaching career that saw him teach Psychology at Harvard, Stanford and Columbia University. His great contribution to Psychology was his book Personality, and Assessment which challenged established approaches to studying human personality. Theorists of personality had until then believed in the stability of an individual's personality traits over diverse contexts. This stability and universality of traits is what Mischel challenged.
