Expert Solution
Background on Atlantic slave trade

The triangular slave trade was carried out across the Atlantic. European ships loaded with manufactured goods to Africa's west coast from where enslaved people were purchased and boarded onto the ships to be sold in the new world plantations in return for cultivated goods. In this trade, enslaved African people had to go through three stages during this tragic and torturous journey. The first passage was the stage when people were captured in raids by other tribes or as tribute by their own tribe and taken to African ports where they were put until they were bought. The next stage was the middle passage which refers to the journey across the ocean aboard the ships under horrendous and callous conditions. The final passage was the stage in which the people were moved inland from the ports in the new world towards plantations or other destinations for work.
