Describe the economic systems (e.g., labor relationships, trade networks, major cash crops) of the colony Massachusetts Bay.
In 1630, a group of Puritan settlers founded the Massachusetts Bay Colony; their aim was to establish a religious community in the New World. Under John Winthrop's leadership who harbored grand visions for this colony as being "a city upon a hill," an exemplar for other Puritan communities these industrious and devout individuals set forth on what would become one of history's most influential ventures.
Despite the harsh winters, disease and food shortages that settlers in Massachusetts Bay Colony faced during its early years; they persevered. Their resilience paid off by mid-17th century when it emerged as one of North America's most prosperous colonies.
