The sarcomeres are the structural and functional units of the striated muscles. The myofibrils are the contractile fibers that form the muscle tissue. Each myofibril contains units of sarcomeres which can be identified by alternating light and dark bands under a microscope. Two of the main filament that forms sarcomere are actin and myosin. Actin forms thin filaments, and myosin forms thick filaments.
