The Native Americans are the indigenous people of the Americas. They lived by practicing a subsistence economy by farming, hunting, gathering, and fishing. There were many different communities of people who lived there. They usually maintained relations with one another by being tributes, while some were chiefdoms.
They practiced an animistic belief, culture, and tradition, and spoke a variety of languages. When Columbus first encountered them, he named them 'Indians'. He was mistaken that he had landed in the East Indies and these were Indian people. This terminology remained for a very long time and has been rejected over time.
