A chemical reaction is a transformation resulting in a change of composition, constitution and/or configuration of a compound (referred to as the reactant or substrate) into products.
In organic chemistry, a reaction may be written precisely as it is for general chemistry. Only a basic amount of information is needed like which type of reaction will occur (substitution or elimination), under what conditions will the reaction proceed, what will be the stereochemistry of the product formed etc.
While writing equations in organic chemistry, equations are generally not balanced and proper Lewis drawings are needed instead of only molecular formulas because various organic reactions undergo rearrangements.
