Define the term Antifeminism?

Expert Solution
Step 1

The term Antifeminism has seen various interpretations and meanings infused to the word according to the 'feminist' movements and the overall gender scenario of the time.

Step 2

The term came into being in the 19th century when the First wave of feminism took place and women joined the feminist movement demanding equal political and suffrage rights along with other rights like motherhood, etc. The antifeminists were the ones who opposed this demand and claimed there's a divine gender divide of inequality and it'll always will be so. Many women joined the anti feminists in their demands too. A 'crisis of masculinity' was called upon by the antifeminists and when the suffrage rights were granted to women, they continued fighting it as the increasing demands by the feminists were disrupting their normal way of life. From then on, antifemninists have opposed many policies and reforms the feminists have demanded, but the post modern society has seen a shift in the concept just like feminism itself has been modifying through the ages. The antifeminism at present is led by prominent women leaders and they oppose the radical ideal of feminists which are opposed to the other gender. They vouch for a gender equal society and also recognise the ordeals that the male gender is going through because of the prevailing conditions like gender differences in suicide rates, college admissions and so on.
