The RMgX is a Grignard reagent where X is halogens i.e. Cl, Br I. Grignard reagent reacts with carbonyl compounds followed by water to give the corresponding alcohol. We know that the Grignard reagent is a nucleophile (electron-rich center) that will react with the electron-deficient center and here ketone is the electron-deficient center than the ester functional group. The Grignard reagent first reacts with ketone and then with the ester functional group. Here, it is given that 1 mole of a Grignard reagent which means that reagent will reduce the Ketone functional group only.
