Question

Create a diagram or model on cytoplasm. And then answer these questions on a biological perspective. Thanks!!

  • What advantages and disadvantages are there to an all brain/all muscle body plan?
  • Would this organism benefit from specialized tissues? Why or why not?
  • Consider actual organisms that may be similar in nature with a limited number of specialized tissues/cells.  Would you be worried about this organism causing global extinction? Why or why not?
  • Why do you think that the biologist consultant who worked on this film chose an organism which has uniformity in the tissues?
  • Imagine a re-make of this movie. What organism would you suggest to the producers would make the optimal Martian in this movie? Defend your proposal using knowledge of cell structure and function.

Expert Solution
Step 1

Each cell is filled with a viscous fluid called the cytoplasm, which is encased in the cell membrane. It mostly consists of proteins, salts, and water. All the internal and external components of eukaryotic cells are contained in the cytoplasm. The cytoplasm houses all the organelles found in eukaryotic cells, including the nucleus, endoplasmic reticulum, and mitochondria. The cytosol is the part of the cytoplasm that is not housed in an organelle. Contrary to appearances, the cytoplasm is highly structured while appearing to lack any form or organization. The cytoskeleton, a network of protein scaffolds, is responsible for giving the cell and its cytoplasm its structural integrity.
