such as cyber bullying has led people to commit suicide. Those who cyber bully resort to using threats, harassing their
victims, and embarrassing their victims via cellphones on the Internet (Luxton et al., 2012). It was reported in a study from
2004-2010, that about 40.6% users of the Internet had been cyberbullied (Luxton et al., 2012). This growing problem
effects people of all ages, but specifically school aged children. In a study conducted on 2,000 middle schoolers, they found
that those who were cyber bullied, were 2 times more likely to attempt suicide compared to those who did not experience
cyberbullying (Luxton et al., 2012). With the video I picked this week, it proves the claims made the article I selected.
The video I selected this week gives viewers the definition of cyberbullying and how it effects victims. In the video
they give an example of how a girl named Maddie took a screenshot of her classmate's, Shonda, picture. Maddie decided
to change to picture to make it look like Shonda was a monster. Maddie then proceeded to send the picture in a group
chat along with hurtful words, and several others decided to comment hurtful things. The picture soon was shared with
others at the school (StopBullying Gov, 2022). This hurt Shonda severely. What this video shows is that cyberbullying hurts
people and has serious consequences. The literature and the video that a watched both describe what social media can
do to others. Although social media can be beneficial in many ways, it can harm others.
