a) Alkynes undergo various reactions. They undergo addition with HCl, where Cl is substituted at the highest substituted carbon atom, according to Markonikov's rule.

b) They undergo a reduction with H2 in the presence of Lindlar catalysts. Lindlar catalyst consists of BaSO4 coated with Palladium metal that is poisoned by quinoline.

c) In the presence of Sulphuric acid and Mercuric sulfate, alkyne gets converted to a ketone where one carbon is converted into carbonyl carbon.
