The stereocenters of the organic compound are labeled as R ( right or clockwise direction) or S( Left or anticlockwise direction) based on the arrangement of the groups with an increase in priority. The groups are given priority based on the atomic number of the atom attached to the stereocenter. If two or more atoms attached to the stereocenter are similar, then the priority is given based on the atom attached in turn to the first atom. The lowest priority is always considered facing away from the viewer when determining whether clockwise or anticlockwise. If the higher priority to lower priority moves in a clockwise direction, then they are named R, and they are called S in the opposite case. If they are facing towards us, the stereocenters are named in reverse fashion i.e., R for anticlockwise and S for clockwise.
