The image shows a microscopic view of blood cells with several blue arrows pointing to specific cells. These arrows highlight cells that appear to contain dark, irregular structures. This pattern is indicative of the presence of the malaria parasite within red blood cells. The parasites are seen as small, dark-stained spots or rings within the cells, consistent with early trophozoite stages of the Plasmodium species, commonly seen in malaria infections.

For educational purposes, this image can be used to introduce students to the identification of malaria-infected red blood cells under a microscope. Understanding these visual cues is crucial for diagnosing malaria, a significant infectious disease transmitted by Anopheles mosquitoes.

Expert Solution
Step 1

Blood is a liquid that carries oxygen and vitamins to cells while  removing carbon dioxide and other waste materials. Technically speaking, blood is a transport fluid that is pumped  to all components of the body through the coronary heart (the same structure) and then returned to the coronary heart to repeat the procedure. Blood is a tissue and a liquid. It is a tissue in the sense that it is a collection of similar specialized cells that carry out useful activities. These cells swim in a liquid matrix (plasma) that makes the blood  float. When blood flow is stopped, death occurs within minutes due to the effects of an adverse environment on extremely vulnerable cells.
