After your investigation, explain why you think New Orleans should have been rebuilt or not. Be sure to expand on your reasons with examples from the reading.

Expert Solution
Step 1

New Orleans should not have been rebuilt. This is because the artificial levees which are built for preventing the deposition of sediment have made most of the parts of the city to go below the sea level. The city shall continue sinking due to the compaction of sediment. The city continues to sink deeper every year. Therefore, it should not have been rebuilt. Moreover, the groundwater in thic city is withdrawn by a number of wells which is also responsible for the subsidation of the land surface, thereby making New Orleans unfit for rebuilding and unfit for habitation. Another reason why New Orleans should not have been rebuilt is because there are considerable issues in maintaining the natural course of the river. For example, the artificial levees are required to be maintained on a regular basis for ensuring that the Mississippi river flows to the sea through the city.
