Question

A man is observing a taboo day and decided to watch a television all day. His RBS read 11.0 mmol/L.

i. Mention the metabolic activity that his body will under take on this day

ii. Explain the metabolic pathway that will take place to ensure homeostasis.

iii. Explain Activation energy

Expert Solution
Step 1 Introduction:

A metabolic pathway is a chain of chemical reactions in a cell that helps build and breakdown molecules for cellular processes. Catabolic pathways involve break down molecules and produce energy. Because almost all metabolic reactions take place non-spontaneously, proteins called enzymes help facilitate those chemical reactions.

Step 2 Concept:

1) As per the studies, the man had two measured of resting energy expenditure obtained while at rest and one measurement of energy expenditure taken while viewing television. Results indicated that metabolic rate during television viewing was significantly lower than during rest. A person with a low metabolism will burn fewer calories at rest and during activity and therefore has to eat less to avoid becoming overweight.
