researcher was interested in the simultaneous effect of literacy rate and GDP per capita (in 10K US
dollars) on government effectiveness. However, the researcher suspected that the regime type -
whether a country has a democratic regime - probably related to literacy rate, GDP or government
effectiveness, so decided to control for the effect of being a democracy.
The researcher used data from the 2012 World Dataset. The dependent variable, government
effectiveness, ranged from 0 to 100 where 100 means a fully effective government and 0 means a
completely ineffective government.
