Hardy Weinberg (HWE) principle – In HWE the genotype frequencies and allele frequencies of a population will remain constant from generation to generation.
The population is in HWE when expected genotypic frequency is equal to observed genotypic frequency.
If a population mates randomly and combination of gametes occurs randomly to produce the zygotes of the next generation; if these zygotes have equal chance to survive to the adult stage then the population is at Hardy Weinberg equilibrium. And this population should have the same genotypic frequency as well as allele frequency from generation to generation. The population would not be in Hardy Weinberg equilibrium if natural selection, mutation, or migration would happen to the population.
