Fight or flight response-History:

The fight-or-flight response concept was mainly developed by Walter.B.Cannon.He developed it when he studied epinephrine secretion from the adrenal medulla of animals in a laboratory setup. Cannon mainly thought that both the sympathetic nervous system as well as adrenal medulla as the same functional unit with epinephrine being the main chemical messenger.

Importance:
The fight-or-flight response plays a very important role in dealing with danger and other stresses present in the environment. When an organism is under threat, this response helps in preparing the body to either flee or fly.
