A section of a dam constructed from a clay is shown in
Fig 1. The dam is supported on 10 m of sandy clay with kx =1.2
x 10-5 cm/s and kz = 2 x 10-5 cm/s and a saturated unit weight
of 17.8 kN/m3. Below the sandy clay is a thick layer of
impervious clay. The upstream and downstream slopes are
1(V):2(H).
