Question

Ten moles per second (10 mol/s) of an equimolar liquid mixture of water (1)/ethanol
(2) at 30 °C and 11 kPa is flashed to 7.0 kPa. Assume that the Raoult’s Law is
appropriate for this mixture using.
[i] Prove that the given pressure lies between the bubble P (Pbubbl) and dew P
(Dewdew) and the liquid system will partially flash, allowing a separation to
occur.
[ii] What is the resulting composition and molar flow rate of the equilibrium
streams exiting the flash distillation unit?
Note that Antoine equation, with parameters are provided in Appendix B.2, page 682
in the textbook.
