The nervous system functions as an unified whole in human beings. The 2 important parts of the nervous system includes the 'Central Nervous System' or CNS and the 'Peripheral Nervous System' or PNS.
The 'Peripheral Nervous System' or PNS comprises of the nerves that are located in the peripheral area, outside the CNS. The peripheral nervous system mainly consists nerves, bunch of axons from several neurons, that join the CNS with sense organs and also with different muscles and glands all over the human body. Majority of the nerves, are joined to the spinal cord. Other nerves termed as cranial nerves branch out from the brain.
The peripheral nervous system has 2 subdivisions, these are 1) Somatic Nervous System and 2) Autonomic Nervous System.
