Madeline Miller Biography
Madeline Miller studied the Classics at Brown University, earning both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in the subject. She teaches Greek, Latin, and Shakespeare, along with writing essays and novels. Circe is her second book. The Song of Achilles was her first, published in 2012, about another legendary Greek character, who was killed in the Trojan War and why we refer to a profound weakness as an “Achilles heel.” Miller’s novels are critically acclaimed, earning top spots as The New York Times bestsellers. The Song of Achilles also won the 2012 Orange Prize for Fiction (now called the Women’s Prize), a United Kingdom literary honor open to writers worldwide. Miller was born in Boston and lives in Philadelphia.
