8-3 Discussion: One-Way ANOVA 1. Define the null and alternative hypothesis in mathematical terms and in words. Null hypothesis: H 0 : µ1 = µ2 = µ3. The null hypothesis is that the average of the means are the same or equal. Alternative hypothesis: Ha: µ1 ≠ µ2 ≠ µ3. The alternative hypothesis is that all the means are not the same or not equal. 2. Report the level of significance. The level of significance is 5% or 0.05. 3. Include the test statistic and the P-value. See Step 2 in the Python script. Test Statistic: 55.07 P-Value: 0.0 4. Provide your conclusion and interpretation of the test. Should the null hypothesis be rejected? Why or why not? Since the P-Value at 0.0 is less than the level of significance at 0.05, the null hypothesis should be rejected. This tells us that the results are statistically significant. 5. Does a side-by-side boxplot of the 10-year returns of ETFs from the three sectors confirm your conclusion of the hypothesis test? Why or why not? See Step 3 in the Python script. The side-by-side boxplots of the 10-year returns of ETFs from the three sectors does confirm my conclusion of the hypothesis test. The boxplots reflect that all three sectors have a different mean return. The boxplots all reflect different ranges for each as well.
