What are the relative strengths and shortcomings of quantitative and qualitative methodologies? Consider the comparative advantages and disadvantages in terms of design components including sampling strategies, methods of data collection, and data analysis approaches. Quantitative and qualitative methods of research both play important roles in design components. Quantitative methods have results that are easily replicated that can prove or disprove hypotheses over large sets of audience. Data from quantitative methods provide a macro view, equipped with the details required and comparatively larger samples (Pressman, 2022). These larger samples will allow for a more generalized conclusion. Multiple data sets are able to be evaluated simultaneously, while still being done accurately and quickly (Pressman, 2022). Time can be saved with manual implementation of ideas being completely automated. Qualitative research methods have a better focus on smaller groups which ultimately leads to less required expenses compared to quantitative research (Johnson et al., 2020). When new developments of information emerge, revisions and the framework of the data can be made easily. With qualitative research, the collected data is based on genuine efforts that will allow for a clear idea of the expectations of the study (Johnson et al., 2020). Disadvantages of quantitative methods include the often failure to provide answers more on the why and how but reveal more of the what and to what extent. This method also requires a monitoring of the model performance constantly so that it is ensured that there is compliance with the hypotheses. There is an inability to control the environment and it is more expensive and time consuming (Pressman, 2022). Qualitative methods are difficult to maintain and demonstrate the rigidity of data. If the data is large in quantity, it is very time consuming to analyze and interpret the data. When responses are taken from the participants, there is a possibility of the responses being affected due to the presence of the researchers during the data gathering process (Johnson et al., 2020). Qualitative method results are also difficult to replicate. REFERENCES: Johnson, J. L., Adkins, D., & Chauvin, S. (2020). A review of the quality indicators of rigor in qualitative research.
