State your Research Topic, Objective/Purpose, and Research Question(s).
Research Topic:
Pilot shortage in the U.S.
Research Objective:
The objective of this study is to investigate the impact of pilot shortages in the upcoming years in the U.S. and solutions to this problem.
Research Question:
How the airlines in the U.S are going to mitigate the pilot shortage, are they going to pay more to get more seasoned pilots?
Who would be the population for your study? The population to be analyzed will be the major airlines in the U.S to be more specific the pilots, because the pilots are the workers who work overtime and are offered more money for the shortage of pilots.
What would constitute an appropriate sample?
The appropriate sample would be a small population, such as employees of major airlines.
What methods would be appropriate for collecting data to answer this question/these questions?
One of the most effective methods is surveys, especially if it is a virtual survey that is sent to all major airline pilots via email. Surely not everyone will respond but there will be some who will and that would make the survey random and unbiased. Another method is the observation of what is happening. Seeing how many flights a month are canceled from different airlines. Seeing how airlines are cutting routes due to lack of pilots, etc.
3
Why are these methods appropriate/effective?
This means that random sampling allows unbiased estimates to be created. Also, random sampling allows everyone or everything within a defined group, in this case, the major airlines, to have an equal chance of being selected.
Observation is one of the simplest methods, however, the observation method describes the phenomenon precisely as it occurs in the natural research environment.
What is an alternative method of data collection for this question/these questions?
An alternative method of data collection is document review. In this form of data collection, the user does not have to deal with anybody else. Data can be acquired using existing sources, such as documents and records if access to them is available.
Why is this also appropriate?
Is appropriate since the review documents are available on the internet more specifically in airline reports or on digital platforms. The review documents to be used will be reviewed for their background and their accuracy.
Which method do you think is better? Why?
The best method is a survey especially if it's a virtual survey distributed through email to all major airline pilots. Obviously, not everyone will respond, but some will, making the survey random and unbiased.

Week 11 Discussion Board – Ethics in Statistics
As you start working on your SEA course project, it is important that you also start to think about the idea of ethics in statistics.
The Belmont Report (1976) summarizes ethical principles and guidelines for the research: Respect for Persons, Beneficence, and Justice. After watching the ethics video in this week’s module, respond to the discussion board.

QUESTION 13
A clinical trial is run to investigate the effectiveness of an experimental drug in reducing preterm delivery to a drug considered
standard care and to placebo. Pregnant women are enrolled and randomly assigned to receive either the experimental drug, the
standard drug or placebo. Women are followed through delivery and classified as delivering preterm (< 37 weeks) or not. The data are
shown below. Is there a statistically significant difference in
the proportions of women delivering preterm among the three treatment
groups? Run the test at a 5% level of significance. Give each of the following to receive full credit: 1) the appropriate null
and alternative hypotheses; 2) the appropriate test; 3) the decision rule; 4) the calculation of the test statistic; and 5) your
conclusion including a comparison to alpha or…
