In this study, I collected data from 50 random students who attended the University of Central Florida. I presented each student with one question, How many hours per week do you spend studying? Each student gave me an estimate of their weekly study time that required them to round up or down to the nearest hour of their choosing. According to an article by Edwize “The generally accepted guideline for university studying would be that students must devote around 2-3 study hours for every 60 minutes spent in class.” (Barrett, 2022). Now let’s see if the statistical data will support the generally accepted guideline for university studying.   The numbers in the data set represent the mean(M), median(Mdn), mode, standard deviation(SD), variance, and range of the 50 students from whom the data was collected. The mean number of hours spent studying a week for 50 students was 8.02. The median was 8.00. The mode was 6. The standard deviation was 4.128. The variance was 17.040. The range was 15. The number of scores was 50. The data according to the histogram tells us that 6, 8, and 12 were the most consistent amount of hours a student spent a week studying. Although the histogram appears to have a bell-like shape it is indeed a multimodal distribution because there are two or more high frequencies separated by lower frequencies. This histogram is approximately symmetrical. Barrett, M. (2022, November 16).  How many hours should you study per credit hour .
