Describe how the educator followed the child’s lead in their responses. Your Answer - (1) In this video, the educator builds trusting and reciprocal relationships with the child by being responsive to the child's needs, showing sensitivity and support, and by following the child’s lead during separation. One of the ways the educator supported the child during the separation from their Dad was to offer a cuddle. By providing a child with physical comfort, this can help the child to feel safe and supported, and reassured that they are cared for and valued. Another way she supported the child during separation was to use distraction. The educator encouraged the child to look out of the window, and to search for the sausage dogs that they regularly see outside, this enabled the child to momentarily shift their focus from the departure of their Dad to an engaging and familiar activity. The educator also supported the child during separation by greeting them by using their name, in a warm and welcoming manner. This helps to create trust and consistency by establishing a predictable routine. The educator displayed sensitivity to the child, by showing empathy and understanding when they were upset about their Dad having to leave, She told them she understands it can be a bit sad when he leaves, and gave them a hug, followed by a positive distraction and waving goodbye to Dad out the window. The educator worked with Dad to support his leaving by providing comfort and support to the child, and by providing a consistent routine that included saying goodbye. The child will learn through this routine that goodbyes are are a natural part of the daily routine and that reunions will always follow. The educator followed the child's lead by following the child's verbal and non-verbal cues and engagement in looking out of the window.
