Shantica Rudolph Shantica Rudolph works at the Department of Veteran Affairs and has been an social worker there for two years. She gradated from Alabama State with her MSW Degree Explain what brought the social worker to the field and their work history. “My mother worker as a certified nursing assistant when I was a little girl for many years. She was very caring and compassionate with her patient, which inspired me to go into the healthcare field and take care of others. Nursing was the route I choose until I worked as a Medical Assistant alongside social worker in a pediatrician office. Department of Veteran Affairs Services Offered The United States Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is an agency of the federal government that provides benefits, health care and different services to military Veterans. Mission To care for those who have served in our nation's military and for their families, caregivers, and survivors VA's Veterans Health Administration is the largest health care network in the United States, with over 1,255 health care facilities serving 9 million enrolled Veterans every year
Roles and Activities Shantica uses psychosocial assessments to determine needs of veterans and family members. Provide psychosocial treatment to a wide variety of individuals from various socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic, educational, and other diversified backgrounds She Participate in discharge planning with other disciplines and will be responsible for ensuring that discharge plans are used in a manner that is timely and appropriate. She provides education to veterans and families on community resources, advance directives and VA benefits. She will have knowledge of community resources, how to make appropriate referrals to community and other governmental agencies for services, and ability to coordinate services. Conclusion During this Interview with Shantica Rudolph, It helped me understand the roles and activities social workers actually do. Cultural Awareness is demonstrated at Department of Veteran Affairs because their are veterans with different cultures and the VA takes care of all veterans and treat everyone the same with respect and dignity 10 At the Department of Veteran Affairs every veteran is giving the opportunity to have a social worker meaning a social worker can help with many different resources the veteran needs which plays apart of having social justice.
