2 Why did you select the assessment tool? For this week's assessment tool, I've selected The Alzheimer's Association staging system. One can use the Alzheimer's Association staging method to assess a person's potential stage of the disease as well as track the disease's progression pace. Four phases comprise the Alzheimer's system, ranging from moderate to severe. The system can be used to assess physical function, routine activities, and mental impairment. The assessment tool was my choice since it is helpful when working with folks who are aging or old. The technique is useful for diagnosing aging-related mental diseases. All things considered; the tool is a helpful assessment tool despite a few flaws. Why might it be especially helpful for use with elderly/aging adults? This system is used to monitor and control the progression of Alzheimer's disease as well as to assess the disease's severity or extent. Because the system can tell you how much an adult can manage when doing daily living activities, it may be useful when working with old or rehabilitating populations. It will also inform specialists about the potential degree to which a person may require support or assistance in their house, as well as whether it would be advantageous for them to look for new living arrangements. Additionally, the technology will enable a professional to determine an adult's cognitive level, including how well they learn and comprehend concepts as well as how their brain functions. What challenges or limitations might there be for this assessment tool? While using this diagnostic method, an adult who is in denial about their disease or who frequently misses appointments could present certain difficulties or limits. The fact that assessment instruments can be tricky to use and occasionally inaccurate is another problem. To evaluate how well the assessment tool is working, it is essential to use it in conjunction with other evaluation resources and tools, such as surveys and interviews.
3 What are two common mental health diagnoses associated with the elderly/aging population, and how might the assessment tool you identified assist with diagnosis? The two most frequent mental health disorders linked to aging and the elderly are depression and Alzheimer's disease. The Geriatric Depression Scale can be used to diagnose depression in an aging adult or senior adult as well as to assess the severity of the condition.
