Master of Social Work, Walden University SOCW 6111: Advanced Clinical Social Work Practice I Dr. Temoney June 20, 2023
Why did you select the assessment tool? I chose the tool “Level 2 – Anxiety – Parent/ Guardian of Child Age 6-17”. I chose this assessment tool because I am very familiar with children who have dealt with anxiety, which was very important to me. The assessment tool assesses anxiety in children and adolescents (APA). The tool appears to be very useful and straightforward. It consists of ten questions about how the child has felt that week and the parent is to rate them. This assessment tool may benefit an adolescent who is always nervous and fears a lot. Routine assessments are aimed at identifying undiagnosed youth who may benefit from effective anxiety treatment (Viswanathan et al., 2022). Why might it be especially helpful for use with adolescents? Level 2 – Anxiety – Parent/ Guardian of Child Age 6-17 is helpful for adolescents because the questions are directed at adolescents. For example, one of the questions asks if the child is afraid to go to school (APA). This assessment tool is helpful for clinicians to have a better idea if the adolescent is experiencing signs of anxiety.  What challenges or limitations might there be for this assessment tool? A limitation of the assessment tool is that it is not specific as to what kind of anxiety the adolescent may have. There is more than one type of anxiety, such as social anxiety, separation anxiety, and panic disorder, to name a few. The assessment tool was very general and could have added more questions to specify the adolescent's anxiety.
