Report
Needs Assessment Master of Social Work, Walden University SOCW 6311: Social Work Practice Research II Dr. Smorra December 19, 2023
Description of the Program The suggested program is a thorough, evidence-based parenting intervention designed for families involved in the child welfare system. The goal of this program is to decrease the possibility of families re-entering the child welfare system by addressing the underlying causes of abuse and neglect and encouraging healthy parenting techniques. Criteria for Inclusion Families who have been involved in the child welfare agency due to past abuse or neglect are the target audience for this program. Families with children who are at risk for child abuse or neglect or who are currently experiencing it will meet the inclusion criteria. There will be a priority placed on cases with the potential for improvement and rehabilitation. Families where substance addiction, mental health disorders, or a lack of parenting skills are the root causes of maltreatment and can be addressed through intervention, may fall under this category. Shlonsky and Wagner's 2018 research highlights the significance of focusing on certain risk factors and customizing interventions to meet the specific requirements of families involved in the child welfare system. According to their research, concentrating on families with observable risk factors both lowers the chance that abuse would return and raises the possibility that interventions will be successful (Shlonsky & Wagner, 2018). Justification for the Proposed Program The suggested program is justified by the need for a focused, successful intervention to end abuse and neglect in families. According to Dudley 2020, social work assessment is essential
to improving treatment for vulnerable groups, which aligns with the social work objective of improving outcomes. Effective parenting programs have been repeatedly demonstrated by research to have a favorable impact on the outcomes of children and families, as well as lower the likelihood of child abuse reoccurring (Barth, 2009). Methods for Gathering Credible Information Surveys and interviews will be used to gather credible information from current and former clients. Surveying and interviewing current and former clients will provide valuable insights into their perceptions of existing services and needs. This qualitative data can point out areas that need improvement and help find gaps in the programs that are already in place (Dudley, 2020). Focus groups with child welfare professionals and stakeholders would also be used. Focus groups with child welfare professionals and stakeholders can offer a more comprehensive understanding of the difficulties families encounter and the shortcomings of the currently available resources. Their opinions can help develop a more thorough grasp of the systemic problems and assist in customizing the program to handle these obstacles successfully (Dudley, 2020).
