SOC 112 Module Three Worksheet Statuses and Roles After reading Chapter 4 from the textbook, answer the following questions in complete sentences (1–3 sentences per question). Find at least one scholarly resource to support your answers. Your responses will be graded using the Module Three Worksheet Rubric. Status 1 Status 2 Status 3 1. Describe three statuses that you occupy in society. I am a mother to three beautiful children. I am a strong, independent woman. Within the last 2 years, I have become a recovering addict. 2. Identify whether each status is ascribed or achieved. Being a mother is an achieved status earned when I had my first child. I was born a woman which is something I cannot change, so that is an ascribed status. This as well is an achieved status that I earned 2 years ago when I got through my addiction and into recovery. 3. Explain what the role expectations are for each status. The expectations of being a mother are to be a caregiver, protector, and nurturer. As a woman, I am expected to be polite and kind, as well as maintain a feminine appearance. As a recovering addict, it can be very conflicting for someone trying to maintain sobriety but still having to surround themselves with those still struggling with their addiction. That could be hard for some people to deal with, especially those who are new in their recovery. 5. Provide one example of role strain. An example of role strain as a mother would be a single mother having to be the sole breadwinner as well as the primary caretaker for her children. That puts a huge strain on mothers trying to balance life on their own. For a woman in any type of military background, an example of role strain for them would be trying to maintain their femininity as well as their role within the service. Being a recovering addict is an everyday struggle, adding role strain on top of it makes things that much more difficult. For instance, someone trying to maintain their sobriety but is also dealing with the stressors of being a single parent, deals with role strain by having to
