Research Proposal Part 1 Topic: For my research project, I intend to study how biracial individuals are impacted by society. Specifically how it influences their social identities interactions, perceptions, and experiences. The sociological issues I would like to study are racism and colorism. I will be hoping to research biracial individuals' experiences, perspectives, and feelings. I also hope to learn more about how they self-identify along with their self-esteem and social interactions. Research Question: How do biracial individuals develop and navigate their social identities within sociocultural contexts, and how do these identities influence their interactions, perceptions, and experiences? Data Collection Method: The data collection method chosen to answer this question is interviews. By conducting in-depth interviews with biracial individuals qualitative data on participants’ experiences, perspectives, and feelings can be collected. Interviews allow participants to provide answers in their own words, this is done by the researcher asking open-ended questions. Through this method, the research can also explore participants’ social identities and the challenges they face.
