Reading Questions:  Does capitalism automatically generate resistance? Are there key moments in the history of resistance to capitalism? What are the alternatives to corporate capitalism? What is the Global Justice Movement? Is fair trade an alternative to corporate capitalism? Can you conceive of a world without capitalism? What would it be like?  Capitalism markets are created through the transformation of existing social relations to force people to act in certain ways. For example, in the early days of capitalism people had to be forced to seek a wage for their labour by throwing them off the land which provided them with subsistence  Alternatives to corporate capitalism include: 1. the alter-globalization or global justice movement 2. alternative production and trade 3. alternative currencies, like local exchange trading systems (LETS) 4. alternative property systems, like open source 5. alternative organizational structures, like economic democracy  the Global Justice Movement is a movement where people are not against globalization, but rather against a particular form that supports corporate capitalism  What is private property? What are property rights? Do they make sense? What things can we own? What things can we not own? How might you create property rights for something currently held in common? What are the critiques of private property? What are other forms of ownership?  critiques of private property include the commons, open access movement, and the sharing economy
