The social construction of sexuality continues to be made as generations and years pass. We are becoming more aware of our sexuality as we discover more about ourselves as the generations advance. There are many stereotypes that I did not know about, and yours was a new one to me. I mentioned that some of these stereotypes inform our understanding of sexuality starting at a very young age. These stereotypes categorize what a child can or cannot play with based on their sex. For instance, girls playing with dolls and boys playing with cars is the stereotype I chose to discuss. These stereotypes are set to shape us into a society that the norm see fits. I agree, if an individual does not fit these norms, they may be treated badly or left out of the dominant culture. When a person deviates from these standards, society views them as distinctive or even abnormal. They might be analyzed or despised. When someone's sexuality deviates from cultural standards, issues may arise as well. For example, your Muslim or Christian family members may not accept you if your sexuality does not fit the norm. I enjoyed the example that you provided about scientific research, Terry (1995). It shows how the idea was wrongly spread by making the assumption that it is something toxic to an individual.
