2 Build Your Traumagram As you build your traumagram, what insights do you gain from its construction? I gained various insights from the construction of the traumagram. For instance, some things that bothered me as a child still bother me. Although not as much as they bothered me, they still impacted me. Moreover, some things that bothered me as a child do not bother me anymore since I have learned to come to terms with them. What effects are still stressing your years after the fact? Some of the effects still stressing me years after the fact involve walking alone in the dark. I still find walking alone in dark alleys scary due to my past experience. Even the thought of walking alone in the dark terrifies me as I imagine everything that could go wrong. Are you surprised that some of the events still have the potency they do? I am surprised. Having undergone some of the events years ago, I thought they could no longer affect me, especially after all the time had passed. However, through creating the trauma gram I learned just how much potency they still have. How do they (note “do” instead of “did” because they are still ongoing) change the way you do things, that is, alter your lifestyle? I am more careful in keeping time to ensure that I do not delay and have to walk in a dark alley alone. Moreover, I am more careful where I walk, ensuring that whatever alley I go through is secure. Assessing yourself, look at the effect of any one particular potent trauma then and now. Then look at the cumulative effect of all trauma events. Are you looking at PTSD or just the typical bumps and potholes that occur on a life journey?
