Reflection and Synthesis Report
Name: Alicia Alvarez Week #: 13
Instructions
In the table provided below, you will complete your reflection and synthesis responses for this week. Be sure to complete each Response section. When referencing scripture or other materials, only include a brief or abbreviated summary along with the citation as these cannot be included in the required word count. When you have completed the document, save it to your computer and follow the instructions in your course to submit the assignment to your instructor.
1.
Did you complete all the assigned reading for the week? [Yes]
2.
Article of Faith
Please identify the Article of Faith studied this week
Response: Article of Faith 13
"We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; indeed, we may say
that we follow the admonition of Paul—We believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things, and
hope to be able to endure all things. If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek
after these things."
3.
Explanation of Key Events and
Scriptures
Demonstrate your comprehension of fundamental truths of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ, and your ability to use the scriptures to teach them. Be sure to include specific scripture references from the assigned readings
Scenario: Imagine you have been asked by a family member or friend to share what you believe about the truths and events you studied this week. Share in your own words several
insights as though you are really trying to teach someone. Include at least three scripture references to support the truths you teach (you may reference them, but there is no need to quote them). Share your testimony as you would when teaching someone. Your response will be evaluated by the following criteria:
1.
200–300 words in length
(please include your word count at the bottom of the section).
2.
Include at least 3 scripture references
.
Response: Three scriptures that resonated with me in this week's study focused on the Article of Faith 13 are.
D&C 11:12-14 tells us that the Holy Spirit will induce us to do good things and walk always in righteousness.
Therefore, the Lord will give us his spirit that will guide and enlighten our minds and fill our souls with joy. I like this scripture because it reminds me of the fundamental role that the spirit has and how if we are worthy, we can keep his company. He can bless our lives by helping us to make the best decisions.
Moroni 10:32–33 to approach Christ and consecrate ourselves in him, so that by his grace we would become complete and not deny his authority. I am really grateful for this offer because I know that I may sanctify myself through Christ by accepting his call to become a disciple and that the only way to return to our heavenly father's presence and strive for perfection is to attempt to keep the commandments he has given us.
D&C 59:9-10 in this scripture we're given the invitation to keep ourselves spotless by going to the house of prayer and offering our sacraments on the Holy day. I like this scripture very much and I have it highlighted because it reminds me of the importance of going to renew the covenants, I made through baptism by attending church on
Sundays and partaking of the sacrament.
I testify that acting as a disciple of Christ is possible using the guidance of the spirit and also by partaking of the
sacrament brings blessings to our lives and makes us more virtuous people.

There are many serious challenges people encounter on a daily basis that are consequences
of living in a fallen world. The gospel truths taught in the Articles of Faith have tremendous power to help people find answers, rise above problems, or simply feel God's love and concern for them again.
Each week you will choose an issue (below) and think deeply about how the truths in that week’s Article of Faith can offer hope to those who are experiencing the problem. If you have another issue that particularly interests you, then choose your own:
abortion
abuse/bullying
addiction
depression
divorce
domestic violence
energy/environmental issues
violence
gambling
genocide
homosexuality
international terrorism
materialism
natural disasters
pornography
unemployment
poverty
racial strife/hatred
religious intolerance/persecution
threats to religious liberty
same-sex marriage
suicide
Scenario: Imagine you are speaking to someone who has experienced or has concerns about
the issue you have chosen. What would you share from the doctrine and fundamental truths that you have studied this past week to help that person? Include why you think these truths and doctrine are helpful and what they have meant to you. Be encouraging with the truths you know.
Write a response in at least 300-450 words
and list your word count at the end of your response.
5.
The world problem/issue I chose this week is:
Response: Poverty
Unfortunately, we live in an unequal world where poverty is a big problem in society. The only objective of many
is to get rich and not to help others in need. While the Lord has blessed us with land with many resources for the
benefit of us his children and if we manage these resources well everyone will have enough for our path through this world and that in great part is due to the little knowledge that people have about God and his plan especially of the
eternal blessings that they can reach to have since they only focus on earthly "blessings" such as wealth or political power.
If people could understand the principles taught in the article of faith 13, they would know how important it is to

help others since this article of faith expresses the following: “we believe in being honest truthful benevolent and do good to all men heeding Paul's admonition everything we believe we all hope for and if there is something virtuous beautiful or of good reputation that is what we aspire to”.
One of the parts of this article of faith that stands out the most is the importance of being virtuous, benevolent, and
doing good to all men. I believe that if people understand and apply the things that this article of faith says, the
world would be totally different since those who have more things would share and care for people who do not have many resources, which would put an end to poverty and that would also apply to people who have superior knowledge of the doctrine of Jesus Christ since they would also be concerned about sharing with those people who have little or no knowledge of God, which would put an end to spiritual poverty.
So, we could live in a different world caring for our neighbor more than for ourselves, as expressed in the invitation of the Prophet Thomas S. Monson in the speech Abundantly Blessed Let us be kind to each other and let us be attentive to the needs of others and try to help them.
