Fulmore 1 Tianna Fulmore Dr. Turner THEOL 320 A & B June 26, 2020 Church as Sacrament of Christ According to Martin C. Albl, he argues that this claim “is consistent with the great Christian principles of the Incarnation and the Sacramental Nature of the Church” because Sacramental comes from the idea of something physical about of on to loyalty but also benefits. Martin C. Albl says, “In Christian belief, God was reconciled with the human in the one man, Jesus, at a particular time and place in history. Jesus, in turn, established a specific, visible community led by twelve apostles, with Peter at its head, sharing his authority and passing on to them his teaching. The apostles and their associates, through the apostolic succession, passed down this teaching and authority to their successors, in particular the Bishops” (Martin C. Albl 13.17.2). Albl is claiming the Catholic Church is the one Church that is directly connected to the teachings of Jesus through apostolic succession. This passing down of authority and teaching through a set of successors is only seen in the Catholic Church, according to Albl, therefore, making the Catholic Church the number one authority of the Christian faith. According to Albl, only the Catholic Church is led in this apostolic tradition. Martin C. Albl says, “Only the Catholic Church, led by the pope in Peter’s role as the one head of the Church, is in full continuity with this apostolic tradition” (Martin C. Albl 13.17.2). Albl is stating that since the Catholic Church is the only Church that is in full continuity with the apostolic tradition, the claim that the Catholic Church should have the fullness of the Christian faith is not far off. This historical continuity lines up with the principles of Christianity and the Church, therefore, the divine plans of Jesus are working through humans and the Catholic Church.
