W04 Gospel Research and Insight Name: Daniel Allred Instructions Follow the steps below to complete this activity. Save this document with your name in the file name. When you have completed this activity and answered all the questions, follow the instructions in your course to submit the document for grading and feedback. Step 01 Carefully read and review Section 11-12 and 14-19 of Doctrine and Covenants. Step 02 Find, reference and briefly explain seven “cause and effect” (if...then) scripture passages from these sections. ( 350 – 400 words ) For each passages found, including the following: Reference (Provide the reference where you found the “if…then” statement). Passage (Write out the “if…then” statement as you found it. Explanation (Give your brief explanation of what this principle means to you or why it is important for us to live). 1. In Doctrine and Covenants 18:5, it says, "Wherefore, if you shall build up my church upon the foundation of my gospel and my work, the gates of hell shall not prevail against you." Building the church upon Christ’s gospel and work and it will stand against all. 2. Doctrine and Covenants 18:8 states, "And now, marvel not that I have called him unto mine own purpose, which purpose is known in me; wherefore, if he shall be diligent in keeping my commandments he shall be blessed unto eternal life." Following the Lord's commandments is key to getting those blessings. 3. Doctrine and Covenants 18:15 reads, “And if it so be that you should labor all your days in crying repentance unto this people, and bring, save it be one soul unto me, how great shall be your joy with him in the kingdom of my Father!” If we bring others unto Christ, great will be our joy.
4. Doctrine and Covenants 18:25 is pretty clear – " Wherefore, if they know not the name by which they are called, they cannot have place in the kingdom of my Father." Come unto Christ and know him by name or you will not have a place in His kingdom. 5. Doctrine and Covenants 17:8 says, " And if you do these last commandments of mine, which I have given you, the gates of hell shall not prevail against you; for my grace is sufficient for you, and you shall be lifted up at the last day." It's a reminder to keep our promises by following God's commandments and in return, we will be lifted up in the end. 6. Doctrine and Covenants 14:5 states, " Therefore, if you will ask of me you shall receive; if you will knock it shall be opened unto you." God answers prayers, but we must seek and ask diligently. 7. Doctrine and Covenants 14:7 – " And, if you keep my commandments and endure to the end you shall have eternal life, which gift is the greatest of all the gifts of God.” Endure to the end and then eternal life. Step 03 Choose three of these cause and effect scriptures you discovered and listed. Number them and briefly explain what they reveal to you about the nature of God. ( 150-200 words ) 1. Doctrine and Covenants 18:5 illuminates the depth of God's concern for our journey back to Him. These scriptures emphasize the role of the Atonement and repentance in experiencing genuine joy upon our return to our Heavenly Father. 2. Doctrine and Covenants 18:8 offers a profound understanding of God's care for each of us and His knowledge of what is best. It underscores the critical nature of diligently adhering to His commandments as a key prerequisite for receiving the abundant blessings God has in store for us. 3. Doctrine and Covenants 18:15 unveils the purpose God has designated for us on this Earth. These scriptures highlight the significance of His truth in guiding us back to Him during these latter days. We recognize the restoration of the church through the collaborative efforts of Christ, His faithful servants, and generations of dedicated individuals.
Step 04 Personalized one of the “cause and effect” (if…then) scripture passages you selected and personalize it by using your name where appropriate. ( 50-75 words ) (Example: If I, use your name, do…then I will…) And if “Daniel” does these last commandments of mine, which I have given “Daniel”, the gates of hell shall not prevail against “Daniel”; for my grace is sufficient for “Daniel”, and “Daniel” shall be lifted up at the last day." Step 05 Reflect on the insights you gained this week. Write a 150-250 word paragraph ; describe what the single most powerful insight was that came to you as you studies this week’s revelations and what you hope to do with it. Your paragraph should contain: o A description of what stood out to you. o What you hope to do better as a result of this new or deeper understanding you have been given. Here are some questions to consider in writing this paragraph: o Was there a particular “one=liner” in these revelations that captures your greatest insight? o What was your biggest “aha” moment in studying these revelations? o What do you hope to do better as a result of what you have studied? Doctrine and Covenants 14:5 stood out to me quite significantly, especially as I grapple with maintaining consistency in my daily prayers. This scripture serves as a poignant reminder that our Heavenly Father is ever attentive to our supplications. The knowledge that He is omniscient and omnipresent is reassuring because, knowing He is always listening, we can trust in His unwavering responsiveness. Yet, the challenge lies in patiently awaiting His response, recognizing that it will unfold in His divine timing rather than conforming to our own desires. In such moments, turning to God and prayer becomes a source of solace. Through this process, I've discovered the potency of specificity in my prayers, articulating requests for patience and kindness. Incorporating this practice has notably alleviated my anxieties. As I integrate prayer into my routine, offering thanks before every meal and seeking guidance before driving on road trips for work, these become not just rituals but daily reminders to engage in prayer, regardless of its duration. This newfound commitment instills confidence in me, as I trust that all aspects of life are guided by His divine will.
