To read the Bible theologically means to read the Bible with God as the focal point, understanding his being, his character, his words and works, his purpose, presence, power, promises, and precepts (Crossway 2008). I was raised in a Christian household for most of my life and have attempted, unsuccessfully, to read the Bible
numerous times. I have had people suggest to me to just "read it like any other book," and that the Bible is just the history of God. I feel that every time I reach for the Bible I read with the intent of answering my own questions, trying to find answers. I had never heard of reading the Bible theologically before this class. To me, reading the Bible theologically means reading it, not to seek answers to the questions I want to ask, but reading it to understand who God is and my relationship
with him. If I begin reading the Bible theologically, I will begin to understand God's message, his words to me, and who he is. In learning to read the Bible theologically I hope to read and interpret God's words on my own instead of relying on others to share his words with me in their interpretations. I think this will help me grow closer to God, to truly understand him as he reveals himself to me through his words, and to share God's love and selflessness.
