1 Lloyd Elizabeth Lloyd Religion 105 002 5 November 2023 Critical Thinking Worldview A worldview is one's perspective on and interpretation of life. Usually, one's worldview influences one's values and beliefs. A biblical worldview is based on God's unchanging Word. As the creator of the universe, God is unchanging, powerful, and true. In Genesis 1:1 it states that “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth” (CSB), which means that when having. In the biblical worldview, one tends to believe that God is the creator of the universe. John 17:17 states, "Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth." (CSB) This suggests that we should believe what the Bible teaches since God is the truth and the words in the Bible are from God. Then, 2 Timothy 3:16 states, “All Scripture is inspired by God” (CSB), meaning that God allowed the Holy Spirit to direct and advise humans to write down His Words and preserve them through what one knows them as scripture. Then lastly, to build a solid biblical worldview, one should build a strong relationship with Jesus. Along with having a solid relationship with Jesus, 1 Corinthians 2 mentions how humans receive the gift of the spirit in verse 12, which states, “the spirit which comes from God, so that we may understand what has been freely given to us by God” (CSB). This means that with the gift of the Holy Spirit, the Holy Spirit provides the guidance one needs to live out a solid biblical worldview. (Word Count: 234) Abortion is a current contemporary problem that is being debated today. The termination of a pregnancy is referred to as abortion. This occurs when a pregnancy does not result in the birth of a child. Abortion is classified into two types: medication abortion and procedure
2 Lloyd abortion. Medication abortion involves the use of certain medications to end the pregnancy cycle, whereas procedural abortion involves the removal of the pregnancy from the uterus (National Library of Medicine). When it comes to abortion, there are two distinct groups: those who support abortion (known as "pro-choice") and those who oppose abortion (known as "pro- life"). Pro-choice advocates are primarily concerned with the rights that women should have in deciding whether to have children or not. Pro-lifers believe that life begins at conception and desire to do all possible to safeguard and preserve their right to life. For those who are pro-life, their morals tend to be shaped by their religious views and what they believe. (Alternatives Pregnancy Center) (Word Count: 159) Although there is no specific place in the Bible where abortion is addressed, there are many teachings within the Bible that make it evident about where God stands on abortion. Regarding children, God knows who we are before we are even a thought or born, which is stated in Jeremiah 1:5, “I chose you before I formed you in the womb;” (CSB). Along with knowing us in the womb, Psalm 139:13-16 mentions, “For it was you who created my inward parts; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.” (CSB), which means that God has a role in our creation. The Bible then explains the same punishment for people who cause the death of a newborn, which is also deemed murder (GotQuestions.org). Within Exodus, the six commandments of the Ten Commandments state, “Do not murder.” (Exodus 20:13, CSB). This is proof that the Bible and God oppose abortion (Seering). Lastly, when it comes to abortion, it is not a matter of a woman’s right to choose to have the baby since the baby is already present and living. Abortion is a matter of life and death of a human being that is created in “the image of God,” Genesis 1:27 (NIV) (GotQuestions.org). (Word Count: 202)
