The Doctrine and Practice of Gathering
“FOUNDATIONS” NOTES
[What important historical events and/or doctrinal teachings from class today could be considered
“foundational” to the Restoration? Which of these might I want to write about in my final “Top Ten
Foundations of the Restoration Paper” due at the end of the course? Why? (75 word minimum)]
The time when we will fill most achievement is when we are truly obedient in the
commandments of God. The saints were so obedient and showed so much trust and faith
in the Lord and His timing/plan.
I really liked the quote from Henry B. Eyring about how our lives are watched over by
God and He gives us the knowledge we need at the time we need it. He has prepared
opportunities for us. We may not always recognize these opportunities, but they are for
our benefit. The saints were not entirely sure why God was telling them to move
everything they have ever known to Ohio, but God had something miraculous planned.
The faith they had was extraordinary.
PERSONAL INSIGHTS & REFLECTIONS
[What important personal insights did I gain in class today? And from what I learned and felt, what is
most relevant in my life right now? Why? (100-300 words)]
“Sacrifice allows us to learn something about ourselves- what we are willing to offer to the Lord through
our obedience” – M. Russell Ballard
I really like this quote. It really makes me stop and ponder about my own response. What am I willing to
sacrifice for the Lord? What am I willing to give up and stop doing to make room for Him? Some of the
immediate thoughts that come to mind almost make me dread giving them up. I think that because of this,
these are the things that I need to sacrifice the most. These superficial things are taking up too much space
in my life and becoming more important to me than the things that truly matter.
The saints are such good examples of sacrifice and inspire me in my faith.
QUESTIONS/TOPICS TO PURSUE
[Questions I have or things I want to study
more
as a result of this class (at least two)]
1.
What am I willing to sacrifice for the Lord?
2.
How can I increase my faith in God’s plan and timing?
