Restoration of the Melchizedek Priesthood
“FOUNDATIONS” NOTES
[What important historical events and/or doctrinal teachings from class today could be considered
“foundational” to the Restoration? Which of these might I want to write about in my final “Top Ten
Foundations of the Restoration Paper” due at the end of the course? Why? (75 word minimum)]
Moses: restores keys which authorize the gathering and building of temples
Elias: restores the keys which authorize the ordinance of celestial covenant marriage in
which the promises made to the fathers are extended to each couple
Elijah: restores the keys which can seal all ordinances for both the living and the dead-
thus enabling the binding of the whole human family together into the family of God
The Kirtland temple was a preparatory temple and built primarily for the restoration of
keys of authority.
All priesthood is Melchizedek but there are different portions or degrees of it. The
Aaronic priesthood is an appendage of the Melchizedek priesthood. I never knew this and
find it so fascinating and cool!
PERSONAL INSIGHTS & REFLECTIONS
[What important personal insights did I gain in class today? And from what I learned and felt, what is
most relevant in my life right now? Why? (100-300 words)]
God is patient. The restoration of the Melchizedek priesthood started in 1829 and continued until 1846
and is still continuing today. This is one of the most important aspects of the gospel. God was so patient
with the prophet Joseph Smith, and this leads me to believe that the He will be patient with me. This is
such a comforting thought. I have time and time again not been ready to hear or learn or put in the effort
of the gospel. But when the time comes that I feel I am ready to know and learn, I am so glad that I have
the knowledge that God will be waiting for me with open arms, ready to help me grow and progress.
QUESTIONS/TOPICS TO PURSUE
[Questions I have or things I want to study
more
as a result of this class (at least two)]
1.
How has the priesthood blessed my life?
2.
How would my life be different without the priesthood?
