Journal Submission (Week 6) – Reagan Schwarz
✎
The Condescension, Birth, and Infancy of Jesus, Prompt #1:
Briefly
write some personal reflections on ways in which Matthew’s depiction of
Jesus’s birth helps you to see Jesus differently and how this depiction might
have application to your own life. (3–4 sentences)
Matthew draws from so many other scriptural sources in order to
contextualize Jesus’ birth and the symbolism behind it. I didn’t know
about the monument to Herod, but it reminds me so much of the
dichotomy between Jesus’ way and the world’s way. This has existed
even from the moment of his birth and feels even more so prominent
today in a symbolic way. That had to have been so lonely.

The Condescension, Birth, and Infancy of Jesus, Prompt #2:
Briefly
write some personal reflections on ways in which Luke’s depiction of Jesus’s
birth helps you to see Jesus differently and how this depiction might have
application to your own life. (3–4 sentences)
I like how Luke contextualized Christ through the Shepherds. They are
of a very low station, but it aligns with Christ’s focus on helping and
connecting with the cast offs and marginalized. Also the fact that they
were potentially tending to sacrificial lambs, highlighting Christ as a
sacrifice for all mankind? That was mind blowing!

The Condescension, Birth, and Infancy of Jesus, Prompt #3:
Write
some personal reflections on ways in which John’s depiction of Jesus’s
condescension helps you to see Jesus differently and how this depiction
might have application to your own life. (3–4 sentences)
John describes Christ as a living temple filled with the Glory of God to
dwell among us in the flesh on earth. The temple has always been a
place of peace for me. I covenant in temples and draw closer to God
through them. All the same can be said of my relationship with Him.

Beginning of Ministry, Prompt #1:
Based on the insights provided in
this assignment, briefly write some of your personal reflections on what it
means to you to know that the baptism was a moment of revelation to Jesus
concerning His identity and mission. What does this insight mean to you
personally? (3–4 sentences)
His Baptism being a moment of revelation to Him concerning his
identity and mission makes Jesus feel more relatable to me as a flesh
and blood person. Just like us He is having to trust in God’s plan for
him. He is having to be led by the Lord, not always knowing the
fullness of God’s intentions for him until it is later revealed.
✎
Beginning of Ministry, Prompt #2:
After reading the accounts of Jesus's
temptations in the wilderness and considering the doctrinal significance of
His need to experience temptation, briefly record some personal reflections
on how this affects your understanding of Jesus and His role as your Savior,
as well as what these insights could mean for you personally. (3–4 sentences)
The knowledge that Jesus too experienced temptation during his
mortal experience, once again, makes him more relatable. Christ is not
here to patronize us as someone who has never experienced our
hardship. He allowed himself to be tested to further prepare himself for
his role as our Savior.
