1 Alistair McGrath For the Refuel conference I went to the session where Alistair McGarth spoke his views on some aspects of apologetics. Alistair McGrath discussed the transformative power of personal stories in bringing people to faith. He highlighted the book "Coming to Faith through Dawkins," which discusses how 12 people found their journeys redirected by Richard Dawkins or who personally found that reading his book, "The God Delusion," led him to rethink his beliefs and come to faith. These stories are important because they reveal the impact of Dawkins' book on his life and how it led him to find something better than Dawkins' agnosticism and atheism. Dr. Mcgarth also touched on the importance of stories in apologetics, stating that we live in a world where we find many stories, either as the random result of a meaningless process or as the creation of a loving and living God who cares for us profoundly. Christians have a significant role in advancing this story, and their role is to help others discover their identity, purpose, and significance within the Christian Gospel. As a pastor, it is crucial to understand your role in fostering the vocations of believers and reassuring people that Christianity brings meaning and hope. Pastoral ministry can be a significant tool in energizing people and helping them find out what God wants them to do. Dr. McGrath said that a significant problem for many Christians today can also be a source of growth and perspective. It is important to reassure people that art can be a surprising means of growth and help them see this from a bigger perspective. Dr. McGrath touched on how apologists have a significant role in interpreting the Christian faith to their congregation, communicating it in a way that resonates with them. They must translate theology into the vernacular, presenting timeless teachings in the language of our age. This requires adapting the approach of apologetics to fit the context of the congregation.
